1.1 Introduction

Directorate of technical education has sanctioned one unit of NSS to our college in the year 2002-03. The NSS unit of our college, with 100 volunteers, plays an active role in shaping our student humane and making responsible citizens. The overall aim of NSS is personality development of students through community service. We conduct special camping programme of seven days’ duration in adopted places and it provides unique opportunities to students for group living, collective experience sharing, sharing responsibilities, addressing various developmental issues of regional and national importance and close interaction with the community around. Presently Mr Shane Gowda T. G. Lecturer, Mechanical Engineering Department, is working as a NSS programme Officer. 

National service scheme unit in government polytechnic Chintamani is undertaking various social activities from 2002 continuously. The Government Polytechnic Chintamani, took a rebirth with flourishing special camp activities from the academic year 2014-15 under the guidance of Mr. B. Jayathirtha, principal, Government Polytechnic Chintamani and Mr. Shane Gowda T G, NSS programme officer, Government Polytechnic Chintamani.

NSS Unit, Government Polytechnic, Chintamani adopted Kagathi village from the year 2015-16 for serving the community towards following issues

  1. Distributing technical automatic equipment’s to the formers for doing agricultural work.
  2. To identify the needs and problems in the community in the solution of which they can be involved.
  3. To develop among themselves a sense of social and civic responsibility.
  4. To apply education- find practical solution to individual & community problems.
  5. To develop competence required for group living and sharing responsibilities.
  6. Gain skills in mobilizing community participation.
  7. To acquire leadership qualities and democratic attitude.
  8. To develop capacity to meet emergencies and national disasters
  9. To practice national integration.
  10. To enable the students to understand the community in which they work.
  11. To understand themselves in relation to their community

1.3 Regular Activities undertaken by the NSS unit of Govt. Polytechnic, Chintamani since 2014-15 are listed below.

  1. Plantation of saplings, their preservation and upkeep
  2. Organisation of Blood donation camps
  3. Organisation of health/ eye/ immunisation camps
  4. Organisation of awareness programmes/ rallies/ campaigns on various issues
  5. Creation of durable assets through Shramadaan
  6. Organisation of Cultural activities
  7. Organisation of Personality development programmes
  8. Guidance to local people on Energy conservation
  9. Working with people and explaining and teaching improved agricultural practices, equipment’s.

 

1.4 Special Achievements:

1. Mr. Anjappa, NSS volunteer participated in National level business plan competition organized by I create India and won first prize. Received cash prize of Rs. 2,00,000 with certificate and selected to exhibit his model in Newark, US.

2. Mr. Anil kumar (NSS volunteer) and his team from mechanical engineer department developed three types of Manual Tiller (agricultural equipment) under the guidance of Mr Shane Gowda T. G. Lecturer and NSS Programme Officer, distributed 10 No’s Manual Tiller equipment to of farmers during NSS division camp conducted in Kagathi village in the year 2015-16. 

3. Shane Gowda T. G. Lecturer from mechanical department have been selected and appointed as a Nodal NSS Programme officer for Bangalore region.

4. Mr. Shiva kumar R (NSS volunteer) and his team from mechanical engineer department developed 1) Electrical battery powered grass and weed cutter 2) Solar powered grass and weed cutter (agricultural equipment) under the guidance of Mr Shane Gowda T. G. Lecturer and NSS Programme Officer, distributed 10 No’s equipment to of farmers during NSS division camp conducted in Kagathi village in the year 2016-17.
